GENERAL GUIDELINES

Students are expected to wear clothing that is appropriate for a safe and productive learning environment. Clothing must be worn as designed, in the correct size, and in a manner that does not cause disruption or endangerment.

UPPER HALF (Shirts, Tops, etc.)

•Tops must have sleeves.

•Tops must fit properly and be worn as designed.

•Any shirt with logos or writing that does not condone or glamorize:

o Violence or weapons

o Alcohol or drugs

o Gangs

o Sexual content or obscenity

o Anti-social behavior (e.g., images or messages that harm or violate others' rights)

LOWER HALF (Pants, Shorts, Skirts, etc.)

• Must be worn as designed and in the correct size

• Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be longer than mid-thigh

• Ripped or torn clothing may be worn only if skin is not visible

• Footwear must be worn at all times

• Hand-sized logos or writing

NOT PERMITTED – Unacceptable Dress

The following are not allowed at any time, unless otherwise noted:

a. Clothing that exposes undergarments or is excessively revealing (e.g., crop tops, midriffs, cleavage, see-through fabrics) b. Items promoting or glamorizing violence, weapons, drugs, alcohol, gangs, sexual content, or obscenity; or that depict anti-social or harmful behavior c. Clothing with images of items not allowed in school (e.g., a T-shirt showing a bikini) – If it can’t be worn to school, it can’t be depicted on clothing. d. Sharp jewelry, pocket chains, long belts, or bandanas e. Clothing with rips/tears that expose skin f. Spandex as the only covering of the lower half g. Pajamas and sleepwear h. Hats, hair nets, hoods, caps, ponchos, trench coats/dusters, or other bulky garments

*a-d are never allowed, e-h may be allowed on an admin approved free day (e.g., spirit week)

ADMINISTRATIVE DISCRETION

The administration reserves the right to adjust or interpret the dress code to ensure school safety and support a focused learning environment.
