The Friend of Children award was created in 1992 to recognize outstanding volunteers in the communities represented by the districts within the NCESD’s four-county region. Recipients of the award make extraordinary contributions to local schools, not for fame or notoriety, but because that is simply who they are as a community member.
I nominated Johnny and Nikki Gebbers for the Friends of Children Award in recognition of their outstanding dedication and support of the Brewster School District’s athletic programs. Nikki has been instrumental in organizing basketball tournaments that raise crucial funds for our student-athletes, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed. Johnny has made a significant impact on the track and field program, dedicating his time and effort to improving the facilities, including working on the tarmac and more. Their generosity, hard work, and unwavering commitment to Brewster athletics have greatly benefited our students and community, making them truly deserving of this honor.
